About Century-Airport Pediatrics
Century-Airport Pediatrics was established in 1995 on Cayuga Road near the Buffalo Airport. The goal of this new practice was to provide quality comprehensive pediatric care with an emphasis on education, and on HMO capitation strategies, to provide the best cost-effective care for all of our new pediatric patients. To that end, a small library, fitness area, and cafeteria were all established to encourage health education at each visit. The logo was designed to represent a child's cap or 'beanie', but also resembled a cartoon vehicle for future family travel, thus encompassing all aspects of the name 'Century-Airport Pediatrics' (C-AP).
In February of 1999, the capitation plans of most HMOs were not as strong as they had been predicted to become, and patients' family lives were too busy to embrace the full spectrum of what we had to offer; so the practice relocated to its current location at 2625 Harlem Road in the Caritas Medical Arts Building next to St. Joseph Hospital. While the hospital does not have a pediatric presence, the ability to quickly obtain x-rays and laboratory evaluation are a plus when deemed appropriate by one of our providers.
In January of 2004, expansion on the 'well side' of the office created new possibilities for a small library for parents and the ability to have a child psychologist at our office one day each week. Some providers at Century-Airport Pediatrics also refer certain patients to a pediatric chiropractor on site one half day each week. The practice has sponsored a Bike Rodeo and a Halloween Party, in spring and autumn respectively, to encourage safety.
Conferences on child development and behavior have been held at the Hospital Community Room for all interested families.
Our practice newsletter has an annual 'summer' and 'winter' edition; it is available in our office and on the web site. The after hours advice card ("when to call") is also available at our office on wallet size cards and on the web site. Further advice may be added to the web site to improve communication at different times of year. 'Medical alerts' are also on the web site for on-going teaching and communication to our patients as issues and items of pediatric health arise.
Century-Airport Pediatrics at Caritas continues to encourage parents and children to be well educated in all aspects of child health. We provide this education for healthy growth and development as well as for pediatric illnesses and injuries. Our philosophy remains that good communication between the providers (physicians and nurse practitioners) and parents is essential in order to provide the best quality overall health care and allow for the most appropriate office visits and therapies. We strive to follow the established guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics while staying up to date on all current medical issues. We hope that our patients and families enjoy being members of our practice. Most importantly, we strive for health and happiness for each of our children and families. We hope that we have added an element of Well Child Care to our practice that is not readily available elsewhere in Western New York.
